Jarome Apsaktaun

Jarome Apsaktaun is an Inuk country-rock artist and multi-instrumentalist from Kugaaruk, Nunavut. Inspired by life in the Arctic, the land, relationships and everyday experience, his music combines honest storytelling with a simple, melodic country-rock sound.

Jarome first fell in love with music after picking up a guitar as a child. Growing up in a small, remote community with limited access to studios, collaborators and formal music training, he learned largely by doing—playing at home, developing his ear and teaching himself multiple instruments, including acoustic and electric guitar, bass, drums and accordion.

His connection to the land is central to both his life and his music. Hunting, time outdoors, community, memories and relationships all shape the stories he wants to tell. He is especially drawn to live performance and the direct connection it creates with an audience.

In 2026, Jarome travelled from Kugaaruk to Toronto to record his first collection of original songs with professional songwriters, producers and session musicians. The project marked his first major step from playing music at home and in his community toward building a professional recording and touring career.

His goal is straightforward: make relatable music, connect with people, and bring songs rooted in his own experience to audiences across Nunavut, Nunavik and beyond.
